Open integration project "yourself - to find a compromise. Learning for acceptance and participation of immigrants "

Objectives

This is directed by the Federal Ministry of the Interior funded project, both immigrant and native of Rostock city.
With this project we want to give young and elderly immigrants a better orientation in the new home, more contacts with local people and a more active participation in social life. This implies that the immigrants

  • orient themselves in everyday life and get better advice or offers of help can
  • knowledge in matters of education but also of aging in Germany know better
  • have a better contact with the schools and day care for their children
  • know more about the facilities and opportunities for health care and nursing
  • cultural differences, see, understand and accept
  • actively use their German language skills and improve
  • other skills they have brought to use,

Rostock locals, who have in their work with immigrants as clients, patients, people seeking advice, etc. contact, but also those that personal interest in the topic, should increase their intercultural competence. This means that they

  • recognize cultural differences as such, they can accept and deal with them
  • basic knowledge about migration and about the needs and potentials of immigrants have.

Rates for immigrants

To achieve the objectives, the project offers the 6-week course to participate "virtually Germany" at. The following topics are dealt with more talk-oriented with focus on cross-cultural differences:

  1. Migration and alienation - experiences in contact with other cultures, diversity of norms and values
  2. Life in the social and legal state - Social Security and private pensions, rights and duties in everyday life
  3. Childhood and education - standards and values ​​in education, education for family day care and school
  4. Education and professional life - learning pathways and qualifications, orientation in the professional world
  5. Health Care and Aging - Healthy lifestyles and disease prevention, outreach and care options
  6. Equal rights - equal opportunities - men and women and their roles, people with disabilities

Throughout the course, participants are encouraged also to engage in various activities continues: For example you can organize parents' meetings and conduct in which they treated the exchange on the course and raised questions deepen further and or spread to other questions . On the other hand there is the opportunity to participate in the creation of intercultural programs at independent radio LOHRO.

Offers for Locals

Rostock city locals get the chance to participate in a cross-cultural training. These courses are aimed at professionals who have in their work with immigrants as clients, patients, people seeking advice, etc. contact, but also to people who want to participate out of personal interest. The training contributes to the reduction of conflict in contact with immigrants and to better communicate with them by the participants are aware of cultural differences and their knowledge of migration and the needs and potentials is mediated by immigrants.

There is also the possibility to engage in various project components in common with the immigrants. If you can imagine, volunteer work with immigrants together and work together with them on small projects such as meetings to exchange views on specific issues or on radio shows, please contact us. There are many ways of cooperation and development - even without a great deal of time - and the course participants have a keen interest in contact with the local center of Rostock.
